Stars of sand, court earn Division I scholarships

BRADENTON -- Today on the beaches of Siesta Key, Emily Strack and Aurora Newgard will be defending their championship.This time next year, they'll be rivals.After starring for the past two seasons on the court and the sand with the State College of Florida, Strack and Newgard are headed to beach volleyball programs with the University of North Florida and Florida State, respectively. Aurora Newgard commits to play for Division-I Florida State University! State College of Florida volleyball standout has become one of the first players in the country to sign a scholarship to play beach volleyball exclusively for a Division I college. Aurora Newgard has committed to play beach volleyball for Florida State after leading the Manatees to a 35-7 record from her outside hitter position this past season in indoor volleyball. Read more |

USA Volleyball international development qualifier ..."Even more impressive, identical twins Sydney and Kirsten Braasch (Colleyville, Texas) just 17 years old, advanced to Sunday, as did the Florida team of Aurora Newgard (Orlando) and Stephanie Pellitteri (Deerfield Beach). They are the first two sand volleyball scholarship recipients from Florida State University. |

2011 BEACH VOLLEYBALL: ________________ After one of the best indoor seasons in the history of SCF Volleyball, our ladies enjoyed an equally successful spring season of Volleyball on the Beach. Fiesta on Siesta Collegiate Beach Challenge: Aurora Newgard and Emily Strack finish 3rd and went undefeated in pool play against top D-I teams in the State, losing only to Jacksonville University. St. Petersburg College Beach Tournament: SCF Manatees dominated host St. Petersburg College & Florida Christian College. Aurora Newgard and Emily Strack finished first in Championship play. Lacey Blackman and Sarah Geraldson went undefeated in pool play and finished third. SCF's Aurora Newgard and EmilyStrack win 2010 Siesta Key Collegiate Beach Volleyball ChallengeAurora Newgard and Emily Strack celebrate with SCF teammates after upending the University of Miami 15-11 in the Gold Medal match on Saturday, April 17 at Siesta Key Beach. Aurora and Emily finished the day undefeated, taking down other prestigious university duos en route to their championship victory, including Notre Dame, Florida Atlantic University, University of North Florida and University of Central Florida.

Lacey Blackman, Whitney McElhiney and Abby Gaiotti finished first in our 2010 SCF Pre-Season Inter-squad Beach Tournament.Our Champions defeated the team of Aurora Newgard, Julia Huck and Tori Overmyer 23-21 in a hotly contested final. |
