Hunter and Jaco sign to play volleyball at SCF

BRADENTON

The State College of Florida volleyball team just received an injection of new talent with a distinct area flavor.

Brittane' Hunter of Southeast High and Braden River High's Brittany Jaco have both signed official letters of intent to continue their athletic careers and education at the school.

The signing of Hunter sets up a reunion with SCF volleyball Carmine Garofalo. Garofalo was the volleyball coach at Southeast when Hunter was just taking up the sport as a freshman for the Seminoles. He has held the same position at SCF the past three seasons. Read more

Local standouts, Jaco and Hunter sign to play for SCF Manatees

BRADENTON -- For Brittany Jaco, the decision was a no-brainer.

She wanted to play volleyball at the next level and she wanted to go some where with a good physical therapy program.

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND (October 7-8) SCF volleyball will host the top college teams in the State this weekend in an eight team tournament which includes three Nationally ranked teams and out of state University of Missouri - West Plains. Play starts Friday October 7th with games at 11AM and 1, 3 and 5PM. Saturday games are at 10AM and 12, 2 and 4PM. Click here for complete schedule

Sarah Geraldson earns FCSAA 25 Dig Club honors. In a game against Lake Sumter Community College on 10-1-11, Sarah had 26 digs in the match, showing why she is considered to be one of the best defensive players in the state. Transitioning from her usual setting position to Defensive Specialist, Sarah has made a great contribution to the Manatees defense and serve receive game, which has directly impacted the strong offense we have seen of late. Congratulations Sarah!

Manatees offense continues its dominance with a 3-0 win (25-18, 27-25, 25-16) over South Florida Community College. After struggling early in the season, Manatees' hitters are starting to come alive and play to their potential. Leading the offense was middle blocker Nicole McDonald (9 kills hitting .429), Jordan Raulerson (15 kills) and Danielle Williams (8 kills). Kierston Smith notched 30 assists, 4 kills and 3 aces. Defensively, Natalie Fraley had 12 digs while Sarah Geraldson had 15 and contributed 18 service points. "The most exciting part of tonight's match was watching the girls take charge on the court", commented Coach Garofalo. "These girls have everything it takes to play like champions. Tonight they did"!

SCF Volleyball Finishes Strong at South Florida Community College Tournament

SCF Manatees finished 3-1 this weekend at the SFCC tournament. In the first match of the tournament, our Manatees took the first two games (25-19, 25-19) from Clearwater Christian College (NCCAA D-II 2010 National Champs). Read More.

SCF Volleyball Tournament Helped Raise Over $1,000 for Snooty

SCF Manatees volleyball team collected $578 during the Volley for Snooty tournament. With the matching contribution from the Ripple Effect project, the total amount is $1,156. The funds will benefit the South Florida Museum, home to Snooty the Manatee and his friends. Click here for photos

STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 3, SOUTH FLORIDA C.C. 1 -- Danielle Williams and Jordan Raulerson ripped 11 kills apiece to lead a balanced Manatees attack in a 25-16, 25-13, 21-25, 25-13 Suncoast Conference victory over the visiting Panthers.

Sarah Geraldson dished out 36 assists, Natalie Fraley had 18 digs, and Nicole McDonald had 10 kills and four blocks for SCF (4-7, 1-1 conference)

Juco volleyball: SCF cruises past Trinity College
MANATEE — Bradenton Christian product Sarah Geraldson turned in 25 assists and five aces as the State College of Florida volleyball team defeated Trinity College 28-26, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-17.
Deidre Noble had six kills and six blocks, Natalie Fraley had 11 digs, Jordan Raulerson had eight kills, and Nicole McDonald added six blocks as the Manatees improved to 2-3.

SCF Volleyball Team Earns Academic All-American Honors
Congratulations to all 14 players for being awarded Academic All-American Honors by earning a team GPA of 3.44! What makes this even more rewarding and exciting is knowing that SCF had the 11th highest GPA in the country (for volleyball). SCF was also the ONLY Florida College to receive this honor!!!

Congratulations to ALL players for this outstanding achievement. You have shown in so many ways this year what can be accomplished when one is focused and puts forth the right effort. Great job everyone, we are very proud of you!

Natalie Gaudreau , Eve Lewis & Whitney McElhiney receive Academic All-American Honors

Nine State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Manatees earned National Junior College Athletic Association Athletes of Distinction Honors for each having a grade point average of 3.6 or higher in the 2010-11 academic year.

More student-athletes were recognized from SCF than any other college in the state. Volleyball athletes recognized as Academic All-Americans were, Whitney McElhiney , Eve Lewis and Natalie Gaudreau .
