State College of Florida (SCF) is located in the popular Bradenton/Sarasota area on the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. Just 40 minutes south of Tampa, 90 minutes from Orlando and only minutes away from the “Best Beach” in the country, SCF offers a unique, fun and enjoyable college experience that will be treasured for a lifetime.
SCF offers a large variety of academic programs to meet the needs of most students, with our academic programs leading to AA and Baccalaureate degrees. And with a population of over 10,000 students, SCF is not too big, not too small but just the right fit for most students.
Complimenting the great academics is a commitment to athletic excellence. When first accepting the position at SCF, Coach Garofalo was quoted as saying, “I am very excited about the potential we have at SCF to build a premiere program. We have the college, location and climate to recruit some of the top players in the country as well as internationally. It is my goal and passion to quickly develop our volleyball program into one of the best in the state and to consistently compete for State and National titles”.
Just a few weeks after (and with no recruiting yet), Coach Garofalo, his staff and athletes were able to deliver on that vision. The team finished the season with a record of 35-7 which included a 26 game winning streak, a Suncoast Conference Championship, a third place finish in the State Championship and a National Ranking of 12th place! In addition, our Manatees won numerous tournaments and awards this season, including All-American Honorable Mention, All-Conference, All-Tournament and All-State, Suncoast Player of the Year and Coach of the Year honors.
Academically, 13 of our 14 players earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher with three of them earning Individual Distinguished Academic All-American Honors. The team earned and overall 3.44 Team GPA and was recognized as an Academic All-American Team, finishing with the 11th highest Team GPA in the Country and the only Florida College to achieve such an honor.
Another great benefit of playing at SCF is the opportunity to practice and compete in beach volleyball. “With beach volleyball becoming more popular and SCF being only minutes away from some of the best beaches in the country, we offer the perfect setting and opportunity for serious volleyball and beach volleyball players”, explained Coach Garofalo.
