Hearing Impairments / Deafness

Definition     Deafness or having a hearing loss (i.e. are hard of hearing) may be caused by a physical diminution or loss of hearing ability or by a perceptual problem that causes the brain to process incorrectly what is heard.  Such an impairment may cause the student not to hear or to comprehend rapidly spoken information such as procedural instructions, descriptive background, or questions posed by other students and answers given before the actual test begins.

Documentation Guidelines   A current letter or audiologist report from a medical doctor or audiologist, which details the degree of hearing loss, including a statement of functional impact or limitation of the disability on learning or major life activity.

·         Priority Seating

·         Use of Dictionary

·         Use of computer/ grammar & spell checker

·         An American Sign Language Interpreter or Oral Interpreter may interpret spoken instruction and information.
