Outstanding Graduate Award Finalists - Associate
Summer DuBose, a Bradenton resident, was an ambassador for the Biotechnology Alliance for Suncoast Biology Educators at SCF and a member of the American Chemical Society at SCF and Nu Zeta chapter of the PTK International Honor Society. She is a dental assistant/office manager at Sun City Dental Center and has provided oral health education to nursing home patients and elementary students. Ms. DuBose also volunteered for Mother’s Milk Bank and the Sun City Emergency Rescue Squad. She was the recipient of the Florida Student Assistance Grant and the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation Scholarship through the SCF Foundation. After graduating with an Associate in Arts degree from SCF, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences at the University of South Florida and later enroll in a Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree program. Her dream is to become a dentist.
Mary Jane Fuller, a Bradenton resident and single mother, was the secretary and treasurer of the SCF Paralegal Society Club. As a member of the Lambda Epsilon Chi National Honor Society in Paralegal/Legal Assistant Studies, she organized a continuing education seminar for paralegals in the community. Ms. Fuller is a volunteer for Legal Aid of Manasota and recipient of the SCF Outstanding Student in Paralegal/Legal Assisting award. She also is a member of the Paralegal Association of Florida, the Nu Zeta chapter of the PTK International Honor Society, and the Sarasota/Gulf Coast chapter of the American Sewing Guild. After graduating with an Associate in Arts degree and an Advanced Technical Certificate in Paralegal/Legal Assisting, Ms. Fuller plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Her dream is to advocate for and counsel victims of domestic violence.
Joni Liberty, a Bradenton resident, is a single mother who is known by her college professors as a “model of perseverance” for overcoming challenges to achieve her dream of a college education. While at SCF, she developed leadership skills as president of the Nu Zeta chapter of the PTK International Honor Society and volunteered for Keep Manatee Beautiful. Dedicated to helping others, Ms. Liberty served on the training and Girls Inc. committees as a member of the Junior League of Sarasota. She also is a member of the Manatee Young Professionals. Ms. Liberty was the recipient of the Clayton E. and Helen Frey Sorenson Scholarship through the SCF Foundation and the Volunteer Service Certificate of Appreciation from SCF. After graduating with an Associate in Arts degree from SCF, Ms. Liberty plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at the University of South Florida.
Alex Masella, a Venice resident, received Best Documentary in the 2014 SCF Student Film Festival for his narrative, “The Divine Nature Revealed.” He volunteered as a cinematographer for the upcoming feature film, “The Scarlet Letter.” He also coached Little League baseball, participated in Pregnancy Solutions: Walk for Life and assisted in leading Auburn Road Presbyterian Church’s Vacation Bible School. Mr. Masella is a pianist and videographer at Saving Grace Bible Church, where he contributed to a church building restoration project. After graduating with Associate in Arts and Associate in Science in Film Production Technology degrees from SCF, Mr. Masella plans to begin his career in film or media production or start his own production company.
Tracie Myers, a Parrish resident, found a new direction for her life at SCF, where she discovered
a passion for health care. She was a member of the Nu Zeta chapter of the PTK International
Honor Society and the American Chemical Society at SCF. She received the William G.
and Marie Selby Foundation Scholarship. She served as a science and mathematics tutor
in the SCF Academic Resource Center. After graduating with an Associate in Arts degree
from SCF, Ms. Myers plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University
of South Florida and later earn a master’s degree. Her goal is to become a physician’s

Ashley Ewing, an Englewood resident, is a single mother who began her college career at SCF through the Summer Bridge Program. She achieved her dream of a college education after earning an Associate in Arts degree from SCF and continuing in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Services Administration degree program. She has served as a volunteer for the Funding A Music Education Annual Fundraiser and Vineland Elementary School. Ms. Ewing is the recipient of the SCF Image Award for her ability to overcome barriers to her success in college. After graduation, Ms. Ewing plans to pursue a master’s degree in health services with an emphasis on occupational therapy. Her goal is to start her own rehabilitation center for children with special needs or adolescents who are struggling with substance abuse.
Chris Laney, a Sarasota resident, was named the 2014 Sarasota’s Young Professional of the Year and was the youngest member selected for the Business Observer’s 2014 “40 Under 40.” He is the director of client experience for boost DFM Digital Agency and is a 2014 graduate of Leadership Sarasota. Mr. Laney also is the chair of the Young Professionals of Sarasota and the government relations chair for the Suncoast chapter of the American Advertising Federation. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and Young Advocates for Sarasota. Mr. Laney is a member of the Nu Zeta chapter of the PTK International Honor Society. After graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology Management, he plans to pursue a Master of Business Administration in Marketing at Saint Leo University’s School of Business.
