Withdrawal Information
The following are student
actions that may result in an overpayment of VA
benefits:
-
Withdrawing from a
course
: If a
withdrawal drops you from one enrollment rate to another
"Training Time" (i.e., from full-time to half-time
enrollment), only then do you stand a chance of incurring a
debt with the VA. If you withdrew for a reason that
was unexpected and beyond your control, you may file for
mitigating circumstances to keep your benefits intact up to
the time of your withdrawal. Refer to the explanation
of Mitigating Circumstances listed
in the Vet Info Bank.
-
An overpayment may occur when you withdraw
from a course and receive a "W" or select
to Audit a class and receive an "X" grade. Grades
that do not count toward graduation are F, W, X and Ds
(when "C" or better is required).
-
Failure to have an incomplete ("I")
changed to a grade may cause a reduction in benefits at a
later date. If, within the first six weeks of the
next major semester (Fall or Spring), the faculty has not
informed the Educational Records office of a grade change,
the "I" will be changed to an "F" on your payment
record.
VA students are encouraged to make a special effort
to plan their academic schedule to avoid withdrawing from
classes. For Chapter 31 veterans, please contact your
case manager.
