Learn to Sail (for Adults) Beginner classThe class is offered by the Sailing Alternatives, Inc. (SAlt) and Sarasota Sailing Squadron in conjunction with State College of Florida. The student will spend 12 hours in the classroom and 18 hours on the water learning the correct procedures of Sailing. When the student successfully completes the class, they will earn a U.S. Sailing Association certification. The program is also designed to teach disabled students to Sail. Each student will be asked to sign a Waiver of Liability before taking the class. Limit of 10 students per class.

MOTORCYCLE RIDING & STREET SKILLSState College of Florida offers the courses at the Bradenton and Venice campus. For more information or to register for a class, call SCF Bradenton 941-752-5203 or SCF Venice 941-481-1412. First Run - This three-hour riding course is recommended for first-time riders and should be taken before the Basic Rider Course. The beginning rider will have an opportunity to become familiar with and more comfortable with a motorcycle. Class exercises will include starting and stopping, shifting and stopping, and using the friction zone. The class is taught by a nationally certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Rider Coach. Class size is limited to six students. This class does not meet the Florida Basic Rider Safety Course requirments to register a motorcycle Basic Rider Course (BRC) - This is a complete course of instruction for people of all ages who are interested in developing safe street-riding skills. The course consists of ten and one-half hours of classroom instruction and eleven hours of on-cycle training. The course is required for riders who want to acquire their Motorcycle License. Rider coaches reserve the right to refuse instruction to individuals who are not properly attired and/or do not possess proper documents for training. NOTE: Experienced Rider Course (ERC) - This course is for riders who already own and operate motorcycles and know motorcycle-handling techniques. Students must use their own motorcycles, must show proof of Liability insurance and provide a MRC endorsment. Your bike will be inspected for safety. This class does not give you the MRC endorcement. Keeping Children Out of the Middle - The 10 hour course is designed to educate and familiarize parents with the short-term and long-term effects that exposing kids to parental conflict, in a divorce or out-of-the-home parent setting, has on their children. The course helps both parents to identify areas and issues of conflict in their relationship with the other parent that their children are being exposed to, and to develop new strategies of addressing and resolving these issues and conflicts without adversely affecting their children. The course meets two hours a week for five weeks with each parent attending two individual parent sessions and both parents attending one joint parent session. A certificate of completion will be given at the conclusion of the class to show the court you have attended. The course textbook is included in the price of the class.

Your Time With Your Children - This course is designed to familiarize parents with the requirements of a parenting plan in the legal process and how to prepare a parenting plan to submit to the courts that promotes the best interest of your children. Steve Zonakis, former judge pro tem, will help parents understand the Shared Parental Responsibility Contact Guidelines and how to consider these guidelines when preparing an effective parenting plan. During the course you will learn what a parenting plan is and how it is used by the court system, how to create one yourself and what Florida laws a parent should be familiar with regarding shared parental responsibilities. This six-hour course meets two hours each week for three consecutive weeks. Participants completing the course will receive a certificate of completion.
