Music Major Core Courses

Students who plan to enroll in the Education – Music Program need to be cautious when scheduling classes. You will need 36 credit hours in General Education as well as the classes listed below. It is strongly encouraged that students enrolling in the music program, who wish to follow the university parallel track, make an appointment  for advising with one of the following advisors depending on their area of concentration:

-Melodie Dickerson, Choral/Vocal Studies
-Dr. Robyn Bell, Band and Orchestra
-Don Bryn, Keyboard
-Dr. Pete Carney, Jazz
-Rex Willis, Guitar Ensemble

Core Prerequisites for Upper Level Classes

All entering students must take a placement test in Music Theory. Students who pass the placement test should enroll in MUT 1111 and MUT 1241. All other students must take the Music Fundamentals course MUT 1111. Please contact the Director of Theory/Keyboard Studies for additional information.

Aural Theory is considered a co-requisite with Music Theory. Students taking Music Theory I should take Aural Theory I in the same semester. Music Theory II should be taken with Aural Theory II, etc.

Applied Music

Students who are not prepared to enter applied studies at the freshman level should enroll in Applied Preparatory level. Proper placement is determined by the applied instructor. Two credit hours each semester.
