Interfaith Dialogue

Panel discussion presented by the DMAC and ADH (Arts, Design, & Humanities) With representatives from Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Protestant Christianity, Unitarian Universalism, and Islam.

Women's History Month

Showcase of documentaries about the history of women's rights, displays of books and movies by famous women, and showcase of films with women's directors. Libraries in all three campuses.

"The Vagina Monologues" (Play)

For 20 years, "The Vagina Monologues" by Eve Ensler has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public and brought a deeper consciousness to the conversation around ending violence against women and girls. Venice Campus, Library Building 300, Room 307. February 14th, 2019.

MLK Showcase:

"I Have a Dream" and other famous speeches by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. shown in the big screen in the Library Forum, Bradenton Campus, during the week of MLK Day.

MLK Day of Service 2019:

Community service day. January 21st, 2019, at various community centers and organizations. SCF employees and students volunteer for a day of service.

2016 - 2017

Jazz Picnic:

Bradenton Campus. Jazz concert at the Pavilion, featuring Dr. Pete Carney and the SCF Big Band, as well as Bayshore High School and Braden River High School Jazz Bands.

Marriage Equality Panel:

Venice Campus. Discussions and panelists presentations on the impact of legal marriage for LGBT couples.

Embracing Our Differences / Dr. Seuss Day:

Community partnership with Embracing Our Differences and the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level reading. Featuring SCF employees visiting local elementary schools to read Dr. Seuss books.




2015 - 2016

MLK Day of Service

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, instead of taking a "day off", SCF members of the faculty and staff had a "day on" performing service to the community. The DMAC served by providing repairs and landscaping to the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota.

Latino-Americans: 500 Years of History

The SCF Library obtained a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association to present a series of film screenings, storytelling night, and oral histories events related to the history of Latinos in the U.S.
