SCF to Host Florida Poet Laureate Peter Meinke

(Bradenton, Fla., March 26, 2019)The Literary Guild student organization at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host Florida Poet Laureate Peter Meinke 7 p.m. Apr. 4, Library and Learning Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served, and Meinke will sign books after a reading. 

Meinke has authored more than 15 books of poetry, including “The Contracted World: New & More Selected Poems” and “Lucky Bones.” A professor emeritus of Eckerd College, Meinke also wrote “The Shape of Poetry: A Practical Guide to Writing and Reading Poems,” described by The Tampa Tribune as “… so unpretentiously written, so clear in its purpose, and so generously illustrated with poetic selections that it is a delight to read.” 

Meinke is the recipient of many awards, including the Olivet Prize, the Paumanok Award, three Poetry Society of America Awards, the Flannery O’Connor Award, and two NEA Fellowships. In 2015, he was appointed the State Poet Laureate of Florida.
