Free Outdoor Concert at SCF Captures the ‘Rhythm of Life’

(Bradenton, Fla., April 11, 2019)The Music Department at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) concludes its 2018-19 season with an outdoor concert featuring choral and instrumental selections at 7 p.m., Thur. Apr. 25 at the Performance Pavilion at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. The concert is free and open to the public. Seating is provided. Attendees may also bring chairs or blankets, and food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The theme of this year’s annual Spring Fling is “The Rhythm of Life.” The audience is invited to tap their toes and clap their hands as SCF Music Ensembles perform a diverse selection of popular and classic tunes.

SCF’s Symphonic Band will perform two pieces of music by composer Jim Bonney: “Sticks and Stones,” a drum-set solo featuring Presidential Jazz Combo drummer Henley Connor, and “Chaos Theory,” featuring an electric guitar solo from SCF faculty member Dr. Jon Godfrey.

The SCF Concert and Chamber Choirs will perform individual and collectively, with a repertoire that includes “Rhythm of Life,” from the musical "Sweet Charity” and “Jai Ho” from the movie “Slumdog Millionaire.”

The SCF Guitar Ensemble will play “Wave” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, “Black Bird” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and “Alla Cubana-Rumba” by J.M. Borner, among other selections, and the SCF Jazz Ensembles will play music featuring rhythms from Africa to Havana.
