SCF Model UN Team Brings Home Top Awards

(Bradenton, Fla., April 16, 2019)State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Model UN Team experienced one of the most successful competitions in its history at the Southern Regional Model United Nations conference in Charlotte, N.C.

SCF’s delegation won both of the highest awards possible at a Model UN conference, where teams role-play ambassadors and debate a wide range of topics during a simulated session of the United Nations. SCF represented the United Kingdom, a particularly challenging assignment this semester because of ongoing Brexit uncertainty.

Competing against 500 students from 45 colleges and universities, SCF overcame those challenges to win an Outstanding Delegation Award for team performance and a team award for Best Position Paper. Head Delegate Dean Elnaas also won an Individual Outstanding Delegate award for his work on the Security Council.

The spring team included Francesca Donnelly, Dean Elnaas, Andrew Fairley, Hunter Fioretto, Riley Lewellen, Bryan Lounsberry, Allison Poole, and Lillian Soudijn, along with faculty advisor and SCF Political Science Professor Danny Fuerstman.
