New Ad Campaign Spotlights SCF’s Value

(Bradenton, Fla., May 31, 2013) — New television ads for State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) use humor to emphasize the college's affordability without sacrificing quality of the educational or student experience.

Two new spots produced for the "College is Smart, SCF is Genius" campaign have begun airing on local cable and network channels, YouTube, and various online media.

With student debt a major national topic, SCF is eager to clear up confusion that could discourage students from pursuing higher education. The fact is that State College of Florida and many public colleges provide accessible and affordable education while maintaining high academic standards.

SCF President Dr. Carol F. Probstfeld said, "We want to get the message to students and their families that SCF is a great college where they can prepare for their future without compromising their future with unnecessary debt," Probstfeld said.

"The Third Wheel" spot is an analogy showing college debt as an annoying, oversized third wheel that is left behind by a young couple, thanks to SCF's affordable, quality education. The second spot combines a traditional graduation scene with puns in pop-up videos.

Odato Marketing Group of Sarasota created and produced the ads for SCF's public affairs and marketing department. Rich Odato said, "We commend SCF for agreeing to take a humorous approach that might be a little unexpected but will get viewers' attention and cut through the clutter to hit home. State College of Florida is a vital community asset, and it is an honor to work with them on this important project."

The 30-second ads can be viewed on the college's website at and on SCF's Facebook page and YouTube channel, which are linked from the SCF home page.
