SBDC at SCF to Host Small Business Lunch and Learn July 10

(Bradenton, Fla., June 27, 2013) — The Small Business Development Center at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), in partnership with the city of North Port and the North Port Area Chamber of Commerce, will host the fourth workshop in the Small Business Lunch and Learn monthly series.

The next workshop, "Do the Marketing Research," will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee at North Port, 5920 Pan American Blvd., North Port.

Recognizing that a great product or service falls flat if there is no demand for it in the marketplace, workshop presenters will emphasize the importance of market research. Market research helps locate potential buyers, indicates the size of the market and shows the best way to reach them. Participants will learn the importance of using market research to gather information and make it work for their businesses.

The workshop will be presented by Ruth Buchanan, economic development coordinator for the city of North Port, and Adam Bartolotta, chief executive officer of ROI Media, a full-service advertising agency. Bartolotta also is publisher of the North Port Magazine, Boca Grande Magazine and many nonprofit publications. He has assisted hundreds of local, regional, national and international organizations and businesses with branding and marketing efforts.

Buchanan earned a Master of Business Administration from the International University of Japan, spending a semester at the Manchester Business School. She has been instrumental in ensuring that programs, including the city's Small Business Technical Assistance Program, remain active to foster a stronger local economy.

Lunch will be provided at no cost by the program's sponsors Kinetico Water Systems and Mark Klingel, CPA, LLC.

The workshops are designed to show business owners how to improve their businesses and stay competitive. Additional workshops will be held on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Aug. 14, "Making an Advertising Plan"
  • Sept. 11, "Customer Follow Up"
  • Oct. 9, "Budgeting and Cash Flow"
  • Nov. 13,"Conquering the Fear of Failure"
