Gary Baker Named New Online Learning Director

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 6, 2013) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has named Gary Baker as the new director of online learning. He assumed his position on July 29.

Baker is responsible for overseeing instructional technology at SCF to enhance the quality of teaching, students' experience and learning outcomes. He provides strategic vision and oversees the instructional design team and budget.

Prior to joining SCF, Baker was director of the online campus at State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Mo., from 2007-2013, and director of distance learning and academic quality improvement at Iowa Valley Community College from 2000-2007.

Baker's experience includes creating and implementing new online programs, courses and course delivery standards; developing training programs and policies for online instructors; and teaching online. Hewas professor of business and economics at Marshalltown Community College and adjunct instructor of business and finance at Buena Vista University.

Baker was the recipient of the 2011 Technology Implementation Award from the Missouri Association of Community Colleges. He is a member of the U.S. Distance Learning Association, the Missouri Distance Learning Association and Quality Matters Master Reviewer Missouri Association of Community Colleges.

He has a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and has earned advanced graduate credit hours in higher education administration with an emphasis on distance education and management of educational institutions.
