SCF Hosts Mike Markaverich Trio Concert Feb. 4

(Bradenton, Fla., January 21, 2014) —The Mike Markaverich Trio will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, in Neel Performing Arts Center at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

The Mike Markaverich Trio –  a mixed ensemble of local musicians, including Markaverich, piano and vocals; Ernie Williford, bass and vocals; and Johnny Moore, drums – will present a concert of straight-ahead jazz, including selections by George and Ira Gerswhin, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Charlie Parker and more.

Markaverich has beencompletely blind since birth. He studied at Dartmouth College where he became interested in jazz and decided to pursue a career in music.  After earning a graduate degree at the University of New Hampshire, he began his professional career on Cape Cod where he worked as a solo performer and in various combo settings at major area nightspots for more than ten years.  In November 1988, he moved to Sarasota and has worked extensively with Sarasota resident Williford and Siesta Key resident Moore since 1989. A highlight for the trio was its appearance in the 2011 Clearwater Jazz Holiday annual festival.

Prior to the festival, Markaverich released his latest CD, "Gator Jazz," featuring Williford and Moore. "Gator Jazz" and other CDs by Markaverich will be for sale at the concert.
