SCF Theatre Students Visit New York City

(Bradenton, April 22, 2014) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) theatre faculty and staff members Kenneth Erickson, Dean Anthony, Craig Smith and James Thaggard accompanied nine students who attended several productions in New York City this spring.

The group attended Broadway musicals, "Pippin" and "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," off-Broadway plays, "Hand to God" and "Buyer & Cellar," and Shakespeare productions, "Measure for Measure" by Fiasco Theatre and "Antony & Cleopatra" by the Public Theatre.

Students also had the option of attending "All The Way," "Disaster-The Musical," "Newsies" and "Rocky."  The trip included several opportunities to meet with professional actors, directors and playwrights following the performances.

Retired SCF Professor John W. James, who also took the trip with his wife, Joyce, originated the Annual Honors Theatre Tour in 1980. Since that time, Studio 84 Productions has made 33 trips to New York and two trips to London in 2001 and 2004.
