SCF Business Club Members to Compete at National Conference

(Bradenton, Fla., May 2, 2014) — Members of the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Business Club members earned 16 awards, including two first-place awards, in the Florida PBL Leadership Conference and Competition. Five of the 11 SCF award winners will compete in national competition in Nashville, Tenn., June 24-27.

At the Florida PBL Leadership Conference and Competition, the following SCF students competed and placed in the top five against students from other community colleges and four-year universities. SCF Venice student Ethel “Mickie” Abel received the Who’s Who in Florida PBL Award and was elected the 2014-2015 president of Florida State PBL.

Winners were SCF Bradenton students Austin Jones, third place, sales presentation; Donald Rimel, third place, macroeconomics and impromptu speaking, and second place, microeconomics; Jeff Webb, third place, microeconomics; Michelle Krzesicki, fourth place, business presentation; and Gabrielle Rollano, fifth place, financial concepts.

SCF Venice team members were Mary Ward, first place, personal finance, and third place, retail management; Victoria Paine, first place, job interview, second place, business communication, and fifth place, job interview; Ethel Abel, second place, client service; Brian Abel, second place, project management; and Tat Sing Yeung, fifth place, statistical analysis. Nicky Jones and Ward also won second place in the business decision-making team event.
