SCF Music Department to Present “WEST SIDE STORY”

(Bradenton, Fla., October 7, 2014) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Music Department will present “WEST SIDE STORY” Oct. 24-26 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., in Neel Performing Arts Center, building 11 East. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25; with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26.

“WEST SIDE STORY” is the story of star-crossed lovers, Tony and Maria, as they struggle to rise above the hatred and intolerance that surrounds them.  Based on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,”and soaring as the greatest love story of all time, it remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever.Leonard Bernstein’s score is considered to be one of Broadway’s finest and features such classics as “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “America,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere.”

Members of the SCF creative team include Melodie Dickerson, director; Rex Willis, music director; and Kelly Burnette and Stacie Cratty, choreographers. The 40-member cast includes SCF students, faculty and community members and features a 15 piece orchestra.

General admission is $12; tickets are $6 for students and SCF employees.
