Korean War Veterans to Speak at SCF Venice

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 16, 2014) – Korean War veterans Tom “Skip” Hannon, Richard Caverly and Scotty Blomeley will give a presentation 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, building 800, Selby Room.

The veterans will speak on their experiences and the United States’ involvement in the 1950-53 Korean Conflict.

Hannon, author of “Land of the Morning Calm,” served in the U.S. Army in Korea from April 1952 to May 1953. A recipient of the Purple Heart, Hannon also was named Veteran of the Year in 2012 by his fellow veterans in Manatee County for his work with veterans associations and for sharing his story with area students.

Caverly was a Prisoner of War during the conflict, and Blomeley, a veteran of World War II and Korea, is the recipient of three Purple Hearts.

All three are members of the Korean War Veterans Association, Manasota Chapter 199.
