SCF Manatees Volleyball Team Headed to National Tournament Nov. 20-22

(Bradenton, Fla., November 7, 2014) — SCF Manatees Volleyball team is headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 2014 Division I Volleyball National Championship Nov. 20-22 in Casper, Wyo., after defeating Gulf Coast State College in three games (25-15, 25-19, 25-17) at the NJCAA Region 8/ Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) State Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., Nov. 7.

The win was the SCF Manatees 22nd consecutive victory of the season.

SCF will face Miami Dade College in the state championship game 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. Fans can visit to watch the game live.  

Sophomores Maja Ristić, outside hitter, and Lea Lieb, setter, were named to the NJCAA All-Region/FCSAA All-State team.

The SCF Manatees advanced to the state tournament after winning the Suncoast Conference championship Oct. 21. SCF Manatees Volleyball Coach Lonni Wilson was named the Suncoast Conference Coach of the Year, and Ristić was named Suncoast Conference Player of the Year.

Ristić, Lieb, and Susi Peonia earned First Team All-Conference honors.  Jenny D'Alessandro and JaNhea Beisner were Second Team All-Conference honorees. 

Ristić also was the first SCF athlete this season to be named national Division 1 Player of the Week by NJCAA Oct. 27. In addition, Ristić was a three-time winner of the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Player of the Week.

Lieb was named NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Player of the Week Oct. 20.
