SCF Dental Hygiene Students Excel at Statewide Symposium
(Bradenton, Fla., October 13, 2014) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Dental Hygiene Program students, who are members of the Student American Dental Hygiene Association, excelled at the Florida Dental Hygiene Symposium in Orlando on Sept. 20.
SCF students Hannah Abalos, Karen Rodriguez and Brenda Salmeron won first place out of 14 teams for their presentation, “Connect the Dots,” which highlighted the dangers of oral piercings on oral and systemic health.
SCF students Yuliya Gordiychuk, Larisa Todosiciuc, Marlene Rameriz and Courtney Hoffman also gave a presentation, “Know the Effects of Energy Drinks on Tooth Structure,” which warned of the dangers of sports drinks on tooth enamel.
SADHA at SCF is mentored by Dental Hygiene Assistant Professor Toni McLeroy.
