SCF Brain Bowl Champions to Host High School Tournament

(Bradenton, Fla., April 15, 2015) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Brain Bowl team will wrap up its successful season by hosting a High School Brain Bowl Tournament from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 25 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Building 27. The public is invited to attend.

Teams from SCF Collegiate School, Manatee High School, Braden River High School and Saint Stephens Episcopal School are expected to compete. The entry fee, which includes lunch, is $30 per team.

For the first time in SCF’s history, the SCF Brain Bowl Fire team won the 2015 National Community College Championship Tournament Feb. 27-28 and received an invitation to compete in the 2015 Intercollegiate Championship Tournament, the national championship for four-year schools, where they ranked ahead of prestigious Duke University and University of Alabama, in the College Division II. The team also claimed first place in the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) State Tournament at Pasco-Hernando State College March 13-14.

Christina Dwyer, SCF assistant professor, mathematics, and Hyun Kim, assistant professor, art, design, humanities, are the SCF Brain Bowl team’s coaches.
