Writer in Residence Natasha Trethewey to speak at SCF Venice

(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 28, 2016) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) and the Hermitage Artist Retreat are pleased to announce Natasha Trethewey is the 2016 Annette Dignam Hermitage/SCF Residency recipient. Trethewey, a poet and writer, was named the state poet laureate of Mississippi and the 19th U.S. poet laureate by the Library of Congress in 2012.  In 2013, during her second term, she went on to travel to cities across the country seeking out the many ways poetry is represented in American culture.  She was featured regularly on the PBS NewsHour Poetry Series.

The Annette Dignam Hermitage/SCF residency was created through a generous endowed fund set up by Key Agency and the Dignam family of Englewood at the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The Residency ensures that annually, a writer of national stature will be awarded a Hermitage residency and will present workshops and guest lectures at SCF.

Trethewey will commemorate her place as the recipient and read from her works at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Building 800, Selby Room. The event is open to the public.
