Best-selling Author Tim Dorsey to Visit SCF Venice

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 11, 2016) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Language and Literature Department will host a discussion and book signing by New York Times best-selling author Tim Dorsey at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Building 800, Selby Room. Dorsey is a recent recipient of the John D. MacDonald Award for Excellence in Florida Fiction. He will discuss his writing experience and his works, including his most recent novel, "Coconut Cowboy."

A former Tampa Tribune reporter and editor who grew up in Florida, Dorsey combines his experience covering crime and courts with his knowledge of Florida history to create light-hearted mystery novels. His works include “Tiger Shrimp Tango,” “Pineapple Grenade,” “Triggerfish Twist,” “When Elves Attack,” “Hurricane Punch,” “Atomic Lobster,” “Florida Roadkill” and “Nuclear Jellyfish.” “Coconut Cowboy” is the 19th installment in the series.

In “Coconut Cowboy,” the Sunshine State’s favorite psychotic killer and lovable Floridaphile, Serge Storms, saddles up for his most epic, lethal and hilarious road trip ever as he takes off to the Florida Panhandle to start his search of the American dream. He mounts his classic motorcycle and sets course with Coleman (his sidekick) to find true Americana. Serge and Coleman are surprised when they realize that criminal politicians are as plentiful as gators in the northwest of Florida and things get very complicated.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Doug Ford at 941-408-1501,
