Angie Byrd Named Head Volleyball Coach

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 16, 2016) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has named Angie Byrd as the new Head Volleyball Coach/Campus Recreation Coordinator. She will start work March 21.

Byrd has enjoyed success in her coaching career with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II. She has accumulated a career record of 258-121 as a head coach.

Byrd is excited to join the SCF Athletic Department and said, “I am very thankful for this opportunity that Athletic Director Matt Ennis and the SCF family have graciously provided me with. SCF has a reputation of growing great student-athletes and I am happy to be a part of that equation. I am eager to get started and I am confident that this will be a very rewarding experience for my family and SCF.”

Byrd’s college head coaching career began as she served as the Head Coach of Northwest Shoals Community College in Alabama. During her time there, the volleyball program won four NJCAA Region XXII championships, resulting in four appearances in the NJCAA Volleyball National Tournament.  The volleyball program captured four Alabama Community College Conference Championships under her watch.

Following the elimination of athletics at Northwest Shoals Community College, Byrd took over as Head Coach at Seminole State College in Oklahoma. In her single season, she led the volleyball program to its best record in program history, a region championship and national top 20 ranking.

In her most recent coaching position, Byrd led University of North Carolina at Pembroke to two Peach Belt Tournament appearances and graduated all of her student-athletes. Byrd is currently working in the area of athletic compliance with Benedict College in South Carolina.

“We sought out to find an individual who was passionate about student success and was proven at the two-year athletic level. Angelik Byrd is the perfect fit.  She has a strong track record of leading nationally competitive volleyball programs and student academic achievement, required for this unique position,” said Matt Ennis, SCF Athletic Director.
