SCF Venice Promotes Local Food Systems

(Bradenton, Fla., March 22, 2016) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Green Team and Philosophical Trekkers will sponsor an event on the importance of getting food from local food systems 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Building 800, Selby Room.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be hosted by Woody McCree, associate professor, art, design, humanities, and Green Team chair. Local and organic vendors will sell produce and goods. Don Hall, founder and executive director of Transition Sarasota, will speak at noon about the importance of maintaining community resilience and self-reliance in the face of environmental change and economic instability.

The SCF Green Team and Philosophical Trekkers are groups of students, faculty and staff who work in collaboration to design and implement projects that maintain the natural beauty and the environmental significance of SCF Venice.
