SCF to Add Honors Program for the Fall

(Bradenton, Fla., June. 7, 2016) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will add an Honors Program available to all students in the Fall with classes at SCF Venice. Successful students will receive an Honors Program designation on their transcripts, increasing their prospects for university transfers and jobs.

The interdisciplinary Honors Program is designed to challenge students and help them develop critical thinking, and research and communication skills. Students accepted into the program can enroll in two interdisciplinary honors courses offered during the first academic year. Throughout the second year, students will be required to attend a series of Honors Program seminars featuring guest speakers. Students also complete an Honors Capstone project. The Honors Program also emphasizes civic engagement and what it means to the community as well as the individual student through discussions and community projects.

To be accepted into the Honors Program, students must have one of the following scores: combined SAT score of at least 1,100 in math and reading; a PERT score of 360 or above; an ACT score of 26 or above; or a CPT score of at least 280. SCF Honors expects a high school or college GPA of 3.25, and students must provide two letters of recommendation and a writing sample. Applications received by July 15 will be given first consideration.
