SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Paralegal Students Receive Internships

(Bradenton, Fla., July 14, 2016) — Six students from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) paralegal program are spending their summer getting experience with area law offices, including the public defender’s office in Sarasota and private attorneys in Bradenton, Sarasota Palmetto and Punta Gorda.

The SCF student interns and their assignment are:

  • Michael A. Gonzalez; Kowtko Law Firm in Sarasota.
  • Angela Miller; Kallins, Little, Delgado in Palmetto.
  • Tim Neidert and Naomi McMillan; the Sarasota County Public Defender’s Office.
  • Matthew Pierce; the Farr Law Firm in Punta Gorda.
  • Corynne Pratt; Fowler Law Group, Sarasota and Bradenton.

“The program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain real life experience prior to graduating and applying for their first job,” said James Fowler of the Fowler Law Group, who is supervising Pratt. “I think it is extremely helpful to have a practical understanding of what the job entails and how what you have been learning in school is applied to the daily responsibilities of a paralegal.”

John Schmidt, the administrative director for the Sarasota County Public Defender’s Office, said McMillan and Neidert have been working with a team of legal assistants and with the attorneys.

“We appreciate the time and effort that the students put into their internships,” Schmidt said. The SCF students have been enthusiastic, he said, adding that working in a professional setting helps them develop their skills and build their resumes.
