SCF Venice Welcomes Students With Renovated Library and Student Union

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 16, 2016) — When students return to the Venice campus of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) on Aug. 22 they will be welcomed with a renovated library and student union.

Over the summer, facilities staff at SCF Venice were busy improving the campus for new and returning students. The library has been expanded and received a major facelift. The College added a library instruction room, a work area and new student study areas. The Venice library also has a new central point of services and offices for staff.

“We were able to reconfigure space to increase our study rooms, making it possible to better support our online speech classes and to dedicate an 'honors' study room to support the new honors and dual enrollment program,” said Meg Hawkins, SCF Library director. Facilities Director “Chris Wellman's team did a wonderful job working with the architects, contractors, designers and our own facilities and IT staff to provide us with a space that will benefit students and staff for years.”

Theresa Smith-Ennis also was named the new library supervisor at SCF Venice.

Wellman and staff also were busy in the student union at SCF Venice. The building 500 renovations include a new food service line, cooking equipment, food display, electronic menu boards, lighting, flooring, wall finishes, expanded refrigeration, freezer and storage space. The remodel will enable staff to expand the menu offerings providing students, faculty and staff improved services.

In addition, Darrell Mizell has joined SCF Venice as the new chef on campus.
