SCF, Manatee-Sarasota President Leads Executive Committee of FCSAA

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 23, 2016) — Dr. Carol Probstfeld, president of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has been named the president of the Florida College System Activities Association’s (FCSAA) Executive Committee.

The FCSAA is a statewide, non profit corporation regulating, coordinating and promoting intercollegiate activities, including athletics, brain bowl, forensics, music, student government, student publications and theatre. Membership in the FCSAA is open to any of the 28 colleges in the Florida College System. Each member institution is represented in the policy-making.

The FCSAA has helped Student Government Associations emerge as important voices in the state legislature, as well as at the national level. State competitions and educational programs have helped students become some of the most elegant speakers and quick thinkers in the country.

SCF has a long history of participation in the direction of FCSAA starting with Robert Wynn, who started the baseball program at Manatee Junior College (now SCF) and was named president of the executive committee in 1962, the second year of the association’s existence. Dr. Sarah Pappas was the last president from SCF to serve as president of the FCSAA Executive Committee.

“It is an honor and privilege to carry on the College’s tradition of serving the Florida College Systems Activities Association,” Probstfeld said. “The association’s impact on academics is rich and diverse, as is its contributions in the performing and fine arts. Athletically, the FCSAA has offered Florida students an environment of competition that has propelled them to the national stage.”

The Executive Committee’s next meeting is 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Holiday Inn Tampa Westshore.
