Violin/Piano Duo to Present Master Class and Concert at SCF, Manatee-Sarasota

(Bradenton, Fla., Sept. 15, 2016) — Alfonso Lopez, violinist, and Michelle Tabor, pianist, will give a master class and concert at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) in SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W., Bradenton. The master class, free and open to the public, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21. The concert, “Very Venezuelan,” will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22. Tickets for the concert are $8 general admission, $4 for students and SCF employees.

Lopez and Tabor have performed together in the United States and Venezuela since 2004. Lopez, who lives in Caracas, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music and is a teacher, composer and conductor. He’s also the concertmaster of the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra. Tabor holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in piano and theory, and has continued research in Latin American art music of the 20th century. In Caracas, Lopez and Tabor have performed in prominent chamber music series and festivals such as Pro Musica de Camara, the Friedman Festival of Chamber Music, the series Recital con la Sinfonica at the Asociacion Cultural Humboldt, and the Centro Cultural Croata. 

Their concert at SCF will feature works from the venerated traditions of Bach and Beethoven to an exciting, virtuosic violin showpiece by Lalo, the 19th century Frenchman. The duo also will perform lively, sparkling compositions by Spaniards Albeniz and de Falla, and four Latin American pieces: a Mexican bolero, a Brazilian choro, a Cuban bolero-son, and a Venezuelan joropo.
