SCF, Manatee-Sarasota to Host Climate Change Forum

(Bradenton, Fla Oct. 4, 2016) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a climate change forum 12:30-2 p.m. Oct. 6 at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Building 300, Room 307. The Green Team at SCF Venice will bring together several guest speakers to address the issue.

Professor Andrew Swanson and Abigail Gage, an adjunct instructor, have organized a panel discussion to discuss climate change on a global, state and local neighborhood level. The event will begin with a panel discussion, followed by questions from the audience. The event is open to the public and community members may submit questions for the panel in advance to

Panelists are Darcy Young, public outreach manager for the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program (SBEP), who will

discuss climate change at the regional Level and the SBEP’s plans for assessing the risks that climate change stressors pose to the goals outlined in its Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan; Stevie Freeman-Montes, sustainability manager for the City of Sarasota, who will talk about climate change and sea level rise from the city’s perspective; and Dorian Popescu, senior vice president of marketing with DMK Associates, who will discuss drainage and engineering changes made to Dearborn Street in downtown Englewood.
