SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Joins USF in Launching FUSE

(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 1, 2016) —  The University of South Florida, along with eight colleges including the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), have launched FUSE, a program offering graduates with Associate degrees guaranteed admission to the USF system starting in Fall 2017.

The new partnership is with the entire USF system and includes, SCF, Manatee-Sarasota; Hillsborough Community College; St. Petersburg College; Pasco-Hernando State College; Polk State College; College of Central Florida; and South Florida State College. The new partnership takes a similar approach as the College Consortium in Manatee and Sarasota, but this encompasses the entire Tampa Bay region.

“FUSE offers broader student engagement, expands opportunities and potential for success within the Tampa Bay region,” said SCF President Dr. Carol Probstfeld. “It helps students gain confidence and motivation from the beginning, by removing the unknown.”

FUSE is an expansion of the 2+2 model that maps student paths from matriculation from the Florida College System to completion of baccalaureate degrees at USF. Students will be placed on an academic pathway that provides a seamless transition to the USF System institution of their choice. This allows for timely completion of both associate’s and bachelor's degrees. Students on a defined academic path will be advised on course prerequisites, GPA requirements, tests and any other criteria necessary for admission into limited access or restrictive majors.

Students choosing to join FUSE have access to both the Florida College System and USF communities, expanding their opportunities to join in athletic competition, student life and events. It also offers more opportunities for internships, participation in clubs and more learning resources, including SCF’s future Library & Learning Center. Students will be in a stronger position to make the transition to university life and will experience greater integration into campus culture and experiences. This includes a specially designed orientation session at the outset of the program. The goal is to make sure all FUSE students feel part of the larger university family while in the Florida College System.

Interested students should advise their admissions counselor upon applying to SCF. Visit for an application.
