SCF Music Students to Present Haydn’s “The Creation”

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 4, 2016) – State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Concert Choir along with the Gloria Musicae Singers and Sarasota Orchestra under the direction of Joseph Holt, conductor, will perform Franz Joseph Haydn’s “The Creation” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Church of the Palms, 3224 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota.

This majestic oratorio by Haydn, his best work for chorus and orchestra, tells the biblical story of creation. In his last years, the Austrian composer created this piece over a span of two years making it his masterpiece with a first performance on March 19, 1799 in Vienna, Austria. “The Creation,” which celebrates this planet that is our home, will be accompanied by nature photographs provided by the Science and Environmental Council of Southwest Florida. This concert represents another celebratory collaboration between the SCF Choral Music Program and Gloria Musicae.
