Jaquelyn McNeil Named Dean of Student Services at SCF, Manatee-Sarasota

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 7, 2017) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has named Jaquelyn “Jaquie” McNeil dean of student services. She previously served as the director of the Academic Resource Center at SCF Bradenton.

McNeil, who came to SCF in 2003 as an adjunct instructor in the Language and Literature department, said students are at the heart of everything she does. She coordinated the Core to College grant, which encouraged more dialogue and collaboration between high school and college faculty. She helped develop a learning community that focused on students who tested into developmental English, reading and math.

Before coming to SCF, McNeil spent several years in the K-12 educational system of South Carolina, where she organized a “school within a school,” designed to enhance 9th graders’ academic achievement and persistence in school. She also co-sponsored an African-American Male Symposium, designed to cultivate a sense of pride and belonging in that student population.

“I’m particularly inspired by the words of Nelson Mandela,” McNeil said. “ ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ I want to help transform the lives of students to make the world a better place.”
