SCF Model UN Team Brings Home Outstanding Delegation Team Award

(Bradenton, Fla., April 4, 2017) — A Model UN team from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) representing Germany won the Outstanding Delegation Team Award, the highest team award at the Southern Regional Model United Nations conference in Charlotte, N.C. A second SCF team representing Belgium brought home an Honorable Delegation Team award, equivalent to the bronze medal, during the competition March 30-April 1.

Both also won Best Position Paper team awards, keeping SCF’s streak alive at eight straight conferences. Heather Mazer won an Individual Outstanding Delegate award for her work in the General Assembly Second Committee. Two SCF Collegiate School students, Hannah Nussair and Grace Super, won Individual Most Diplomatic awards for their work on the UN Habitat committee.

“I was pretty floored that a team with relatively little exposure to Model UN was able to accomplish so much competing against 450 students from 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities around the country,” said Daniel Fuerstman, an SCF political science professor and the team’s coach.

The Model UN German delegation was made up of students Jose Alarcon, Juliana Arias, Sierra Beeson, Sam Jones, Heather Mazer, Hannah Nussair and Grace Super. The Belgium delegation included Alyssa Amos, Aliyah Hurt, Sabrina Sarazua and Ethan Shmucker.

Only a handful of students will return for competition next year because most of the students are graduating in May. Fuerstman is currently accepting applications for the team. For more information, email Fuerstman at or call 941-363-7272.
