Fiscal Specialist with Education Experience Named SCF’s Assistant Director of Finance

(Bradenton, Fla., June 8, 2017) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), has hired an assistant director of finance with extensive experience in fiscal oversight. Shan-Mei Phillips previously worked for Hawaii’s Department of Education as a fiscal specialist. Prior to that, she worked as a CPA licensed auditor in a national public accounting firm.

Phillips reports to Lou Woroch, who recently was promoted to director of finance. In Hawaii, Phillips was responsible for modernizing financial processes and systems to improve the overall workflow. She has been charged with helping to improve processes at SCF as well. She plans to focus on streamlining the accounting office’s workflow to improve its efficiency. Phillips also wants to help the College respond to student financial concerns more quickly.

Phillips said she is excited about coming to SCF because her college experience was so positive and she likes the atmosphere of the college and the diversity of the student body.

“I feel like this is the right place for me,” she said. “It makes going to work every day pleasant.”
