SCF Celebrates National Shelfie Day as it Prepares to Open New Library

(Bradenton, Fla., Jan. 25, 2018) — Staff and students took turns this month shelving books and taking photos for National Shelfie Day as they prepare for the ribbon-cutting for the new Library & Learning Center at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF).

National Shelfie Day falls just one month before the ribbon cutting and staff and students are getting a head start with a Feb. 5 book brigade of students, staff and faculty passing books at 10 a.m. from the old library to the new learning environment that features high-tech resources in an open, inviting environment filled with sunlight filtering through huge windows overlooking the campus, and, of course, SCF’s extensive book collection.

The Feb. 22 ribbon-cutting will include a time capsule, hourly tours, a time-lapse video of construction and refreshments. The SCF community will get in on the fun starting in the first week in February with the pass-the-book event and the opening of an exhibit on former U.S. Rep. Robert Smalls, who served in Congress from 1884-1887, as the first black representative from South Carolina.
