Playwright to Serve as Writer in Residence for SCF and the Hermitage Retreat

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 6, 2018) — Playwright Marisa Smith will serve as the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Annette Dignam Writer in Residence for 2018. The program is a partnership with SCF and the Hermitage Artist Retreat.

The Annette Dignam Hermitage/SCF Residency in Literature was created through an endowed fund set up by Key Agency and the Dignam family of Englewood at the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. The program ensures that a writer of national stature will be awarded a Hermitage residency annually and will present workshops and guest lectures at SCF.

This year’s recipient is an award-winning playwright whose work includes: “Saving Kitty,” “She Exits Laughing” and “Sex and Other Disturbances.” Her play “Saving Kitty” was included in the New England New Play Anthology. She will guest lecture in classes at SCF Venice during the spring semester and will oversee a staged reading of 10-minute plays at 11 a.m. Feb. 15 in the Selby Room, Building 800 at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail. The event is free and open to the public.
