Brain Bowl Team Qualifies for State Tournament

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 13, 2018) — The Brain Bowl Team at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) has qualified for the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Brain Bowl State Tournament to be held March 16-17 at Chipola College in Marianna, Florida. 

The team earned a 4-2 record in the West Central Regional Tournament held Saturday at SCF. The tournament featured four teams from three West Central Florida colleges. Each team played six rounds during the tournament. As a team, SCF scored an average of 188 points per game. Individually, veteran and team captain Austin Goode ranked second, averaging 49 points per round. Veteran Lacey Anderson ranked seventh scoring 16 points per round, Ariel Rodriguez ranked tenth, scoring 50 points, while Justin Reitwiesner ranked 15th, scoring 10 points. 

The team, ranked sixth nationally, will also travel to the National Academic Quiz Tournament (NAQT) in March. David Espinal and Sierra Beeson will be part of the team competing in the NAQT Community College Championship Tournament.
