Five SCF Music Students Selected for State Jazz Ensemble

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 27, 2018) — Five music students from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) were selected for chairs in Florida’s jazz ensemble during the Winter Symposium of Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) competition in Jacksonville Florida. SCF students make up 25 percent of the state’s top jazz ensemble, the most students from any one college.

Students from 17 colleges competed for 20 spots in the ensemble. Josh Ambrocia, who plays baritone saxophone, and Emmanuel Montalvo, on alto saxophone, took top spots in the saxophone section. SCF musicians also took the top three trumpet spots with Corey Bishop playing lead trumpet, Noah Owens playing second trumpet, and Luca Stine playing the jazz trumpet soloist chair at third.

To see these award-winning performers, plan on attending the SCF Jazz Festival at 7:30 p.m. March 22 at SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center, a swinging tribute to the Jazz Messengers, which features Chicago guitarist, Gary Tu.
