SCF, Manatee-Sarasota Chamber Music Concert to Feature Small Ensembles

(Bradenton, Fla., March 6, 2018) — “Good Things Come in Small Packages” is the theme for State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) chamber music concert, 7:30 p.m. March 29 in the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W. The college’s small ensembles will be featured, and the audience will be seated on stage with the musicians providing an intimate musical experience.

SCF’s Brass Choir will open the concert with two fanfares, Percy Grainger’s “Duke of Marlborough Fanfare” and Paul Dukas’ “Fanfare from La Péri.” The Woodwind Choir will follow with “Tarantella and Caprice” by William Rhoads.

A unique feature of the concert will be a percussion quintet using dozens of percussion instruments in what is sure to be an experience that is not only heard, but also felt by the audience. George Nickson, principal percussion of the Sarasota Orchestra, has coached this group.

A woodwind quintet, SCF’s Saxophone Choir, a brass quintet, and the SCF Presidential String Quartet and Jazz Quintet will round out the evening’s performances.

“Our students are so excited to be performing several famous chamber compositions and have really thrived with coaching from top-notch local musicians and teachers,” said Robyn Bell, director of instrumental studies at SCF.
