SCF is Making Math Entertaining

(Bradenton, Fla., March 20, 2018) — One math professor at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is on a mission to prove that math can be fun and entertaining. Don’t believe it? Join Dennis C. Runde for his faculty lecture series: “How Cool is That? Ten (or More) Entertaining Applications from First-Year College Math Classes” at 2 p.m. April 11, in Building 27, Room 140 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

Runde, who holds his doctorate in math education from the University of South Florida, will cover ten or more entertaining applications from first-year mathematics classes. His talk will give light treatment to the mathematics and will focus on the sometimes-surprising outcomes of some very interesting real-life problems. Want to be a millionaire? Runde can show you how to figure out how much to invest to have $1 million by the time you retire. A mathematics background is not necessary to enjoy this presentation, which is free and open to the public.

Runde has been teaching math at SCF for 28 years and is the co-author of textbooks in Elementary and Intermediate Algebra and in Liberal Arts Mathematics.
