SCF to Host Cookout for Military Appreciation Day

(Bradenton, Fla., April 3, 2018) — The Intercollegiate Athletic Committee at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a cookout for veterans, members of the military and their families 1-2 p.m. April 7 during the Manatees baseball game against Florida Southwestern State College at the Robert C. Wynn baseball field at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

Families should plan to stay for the baseball game as the SCF Manatees, ranked ninth in national polls and first in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 8 Baseball Coaches' Poll, take on the Buccaneers, rivals from Fort Myers. Opening ceremonies will begin at 12:55 p.m. with a Color Guard presented by Bayshore High School’s NJROTC and Lyndsey Culbreath, SCF student, singing the national anthem.

Veteran and military families who plan to attend the cookout should RSVP to Jennifer Bieselin, speech communications professor, at to ensure there is enough food for the cookout. Active military, veterans and their families also will get free admission to the April 7 game. General admission is $4, senior admission $2, and SCF students and staff are free with an SCF ID.
