Musical Showcase to Feature Songs and Scenes from Broadway

(Bradenton, Fla., April 5, 2018) — The Music Theatre Ensemble at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will present a showcase of theatre songs and scenes in “A Whole New World” at 7:30 p.m. April 16 in SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th St. W. The showcase is free and open to the public.

The scenes will explore songs from Broadway musicals based in places around the world and beyond. Songs and scenes are from traditional shows such as “The Sound of Music,” “Finian's Rainbow,” “The Fantasticks,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Cinderella,” “Candide,” and “Oliver!,” to more contemporary musicals such as “Chess,” “Children of Eden,” “The Great Comet,” “Spring Awakening,” “Aida” and “Nine.” Twenty-two students will present group numbers staged and costumed to reflect the scenes from various musicals.

The showcase offers students an opportunity to assist in choosing, directing, choreographing and staging the scenes. The production is under the direction of SCF Music Program Chair Melodie Dickerson with music direction by staff accompanist Lurray Myers.
