SCF Manatees Head to State Tournament

(Bradenton, Fla., May 10, 2018) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF), home to the state’s top-ranked baseball team, is cheering the SCF Manatees as they head to the state tournament at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. It has been a successful season for the Manatees as they head into the state tournament with a 42-12-1 record and the Suncoast Conference Pitcher of the Year, Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.

The team has been ranked number one in the state in the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Coaches’ Poll. The Manatees also appeared regularly in the top 20 rankings in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) polls. The winner of the state tournament will advance to the Junior College (JUCO) World Series.

The SCF Manatees also did well individually in the Suncoast Conference. Third baseman C.J. Alexander was named the Suncoast Conference Player of the Year; Zach Attianese was named the Suncoast Pitcher of the Year; and shortstop Austin James was named the Suncoast Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Both Alexander and Attianese also are eligible for state awards to be announced at the NJCAA baseball banquet tonight.

The state tournament games will be carried live on the FCSAA digital network at The Manatees play their first game at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11.
