Exams at SCF Offer Free College Credit to Eligible Military Personnel and Spouses

(Bradenton, Fla., June 19, 2018) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is offering free college credit to eligible military personnel and spouses who successfully pass College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams. Successful passage of each free exam earns three to six hours of college credit – a savings of about $300-$600, based on SCF’s current tuition rates.

The exams, which cover areas most colleges and universities require to meet general education or core curriculum, are funded by the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) program. It is not necessary to be a student at SCF to take the exams, and most higher education institutions accept the credit earned.

The free tests are open to active duty and reserve military in all branches of the Armed Forces, spouses and civil service civilian employees of the Air Force Reserve, Army Reserve and Coast Guard, and Department of Defense civilian employees of the Air Force. Individuals who are unsure of their eligibility should contact DANTES at 850-452-1919.

Fact sheets and sample questions for each exam are available at clep.collegeboard.org/earn-college-credit-practice. Comprehensive and individual exam study guides also are available for a fee at store.collegeboard.org. Individuals with an SCF ID or guest library card may check out a copy of the comprehensive study guide from the library at SCF Bradenton or SCF Venice.

Testing sites include the Assessment and Testing Center (ATC) at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Building 1, Room 201 and the ATC at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Building 100, Room 154.
