Gallery at SCF to Host Exhibition of Repurposed Objects

(Bradenton, Fla., Aug. 23, 2018)— State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a solo exhibition of a year’s worth of work by SCF faculty member Sherri Hill, graphic design technology program manager. The Gallery at SCF welcomes students, staff and the public to an opening reception for “52 Weeks: Sherri Hill’s Year of Repurposed Intent,” 4-7 p.m. Sept. 5.

The exhibit will showcase 52 figures created every week as a continuous year-long project, designed, in part, to test the artist’s tenacity, resiliency and agility. Hill decided to challenge herself at the pinnacle of her career to learn new ways to use materials. She used only objects she owned or that she found during the year, sourcing a few key components on her travels outside of the area.

Hill has been on the faculty at SCF for 25 years and plans to retire at the end of the academic year to begin a new creative chapter. She has exhibited in recent years with the Petticoat Painters, in the DiscARTed juried art exhibit and at the Tampa Museum of Art. Hill will offer an artist’s tour of the exhibition 1-2 p.m. Oct. 5. The exhibit runs through Oct. 31.
