National Food Bank Week is an Opportunity to Support Students at SCF

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 11, 2018) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is observing National Food Bank Week next week by offering the community the opportunity to support the college’s student food pantries. SCF began offering food assistance to students at onsite food pantries on all three campuses in 2016 after seeing a significant need. Since then, SCF employees have risen to the challenge and met most of the food pantries’ needs. But the community also is welcome to support students who need help.

“We don’t have refrigeration, so items need to be non-perishable,” said Michelle Puls, SCF’s student life coordinator. “Popular items include Chef Boyardee, canned fruit, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, granola bars, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, beef jerky, nuts and popcorn. Toiletry items also are needed.”

The SCF student food pantries are intended to assist students who experience food insecurity. They are committed to protecting the privacy of students or users; individuals are asked to provide their name, student ID number and the number of people in their household for data collection purposes only.

Individuals who wish to donate should visit the pantries during their regular operating hours:

  • SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Student Union (Building 14), Monday and Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Student Union (Building 500), Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
